Jack's Story
Life
After graduation, I worked at the Bowladium where I met my future wife, Marcie Therien, niece of Tee and Slim Crutcher (remember Crutcher's Malt Shop at the Plaza?). Went to work at the Base as a laborer for Morris and Knudsen while waiting to be drafted. Got married in January, 1953; Turned 20 in February and was drafted in March.
The cease fire was signed in our 13th week of a 16 week infantry basic training cycle. 180 of my company were shipped out to Europe and the rest of us were assigned to
Fort Lewis, Washington to help reactivate the base as the 44th Infantry Division, which later became the 2nd (Indian Head)
Division.
Was released from active duty in March, 1955 along with 55,000 other men and moved to Monrovia, CA, my wife's hometown. She was due to have our first child, Patrick, and wanted to be near her mother. The job market was fierce considering how many people were released from the service, so I took a job as a part time attendant at a Union Oil Station in Arcadia while attending Pasadena City College on the GI Bill. After that, I went to work for Wianko Engineering in Pasadena as a Junior Draftsman and moonlighted as...Expand for more
a draftsman for Loe Engineering Co.(LOENCO)in Altadena. Went to work for Davidson Optronics in 1957 as an electro-mechanical draftsman, then on to Aerojet General's Aetron Division in Azusa, CA in 1958. From there, back to LOENCO full time in 1960, as head of their drafting dept. We were later acquired by Dohrman Mfg. Co. and moved to San Jose in 1968. Was promoted to Project Engineer and then to In-House Sales Mgr. in '71. Downsized in '78 and went to work for Calma, a CAD/CAM company, as a Sr.Contracts Admin. Calma was later acquired by G.E. who sold us to Prime Computer Co. in '88. Prime decided to move all administrative functions to their corporate headquarters in Boston in 1990. Didn't like Boston and I hate the cold, so I opted to take an early retirement as Manager of Contracts Admin. Did some
consulting for two years while I got my house ready to sell, then moved to Dexter, Oregon in 1992. Nothing much since except hunting, camping and fishing. (left out a bunch of stuff about marriage, divorces, births, deaths etc. and will update this later. 52 years is a long time and this is my first crack at putting it all down in writing)
