Jack's Story
I live in Fort Mill, SC and together with my wife, Sheila, have 2 pretty amazing kids. Zach is 16, in the band, has a great attitude, plays everything, and is totally on the right track. Liz is 11 (thinks she is 30)has an independent streak a mile wide, is right about everything, and needs very little guidance. My wife Sheila, is the most beautiful, compassionate, hard working, down to earth woman I have ever known. We love grilling out with friends, walks together, and taking day trip adventures. Things are pretty damn good here.
Family History
I joined the Navy (8 yrs total) shortly after High School and immediately began a 4.5 year sea going adventure on the USS America (CV-66). I was onboard the America in the Persian Gulf (Operation Desert Sheild) when Zach was born. I met him when he was 2.5 months old on June 6th, 1992. Liz came along while we were on "Shore Duty" at NAS Oceana in August of 1996. During our time in the Navy, Sheila attended and graduated from college with a degree in Nursing. Things were a little tight and vacations were non-existent. We infrequently had enough to "splurge" on a six pack of Lite and some Pace salsa. Times were tough and sometimes it was hard being married, young and broke with so much responsibility. Often we made the best of it though, and could be found on the beach, riding our bikes, or watching TV "all day" while laying on the pull out sofa.

During my Navy time, I visited:
England - Portsmouth, Catebury & London
Spain - Malage, Mallorca
France - Marseille(2x)
Italy - Naples(2x), Trieste(3x)
Greece - Athens, Crete, Corfu
Turkey - Antalya
Israel - Haifa(2x)
United Arab Emirates - Dubai(2x), Abu-Dhabi
Virgin Islands...Expand for more
- St. Thomas, St. Maarten
USA - NYC
I was on the America for:
Iraq-Op Desert Sheild
Bosnia-Ops Deny Flight, Provide Promise & Sharp Guardian Somalia-Op Continue Hope
Haiti-Op Uphold Democracy
It was an eventful time in our history and USS America saw most of the action. During our "in port" times we had 2 grueling visits to the shipyards for refits, repairs and overhauls. We were also out to sea in the middle of "The Perfect Storm" for quite the ride (60ft. waves are no joke).
After USS America, I went to Lackland AFB, TX for MP training and returned to the VA Beach area to patrol the NAS Oceana as part of the base police force.
I got out of the Navy in 1998 and went to work with Rockwell Automation in Greenville, SC. I met some of the best people there. In 2000, I left Rockwell for a field sales job with a global corporation not to be named. Several assignments later, I now work mostly from home when not calling on customers in the southeastern US.
Today
Working from a home is a wonderfully agonizing struggle of work time vs. family time. The conflict of being ambitious enough to work very hard. but lazy enough to sit back and take life in is amplified when your placed in the home office. I work hard to seperate the two. Sheila is a cardiac nurse at a nearby hospital and works some pretty crazy hours. She & I work hard to make it possible for our family to do some pretty special things. Zach has been to Hawaii and NYC with the band. We have all been to Disney more times than I can count and vacations are something we can plan on these days. As I said earlier, things are good.
