Jack's Story
After high school, four years at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR -- four majors in four years, ending up with a degree in theatre after falling in love with the process my junior year. USO tour to Asia in the fall/Winter after graduation. Worked in a bank in San Jose, CA for a little bit,, and returned to L&C as Asst. Director of Alumni and then Business Manager of the theatre. Grad school 1967 at University of Oregon, including two more USO tours--one to Asia one to Iceland/Greenland. Then, a brief stint working for the Army Entertainment Program in Fort Lee, Virginia, back to school and then teaching high school in McMinnville, OR until 1984. as immediately hired to a full-time position where I have remained until this day. I teach courses in dramatic literature and theatre history and have no directed nearly 100 productions at community, high school, college, and professional level. I was married from 1967-1981 to Violet Sweany (Watson), divorced and partnered since then with Richard Turnbow, but remain very close to Violet. Rick and I live on 8 acres in Marcola, OR, 17 miles outside of Eugene, with two spaniels. I'm in the process of retiring as professor of Theatre at University of Oregon after 20 years. Planning a move to Kona, Hawaii within the next two years, where the guest room will be open to all old friends. It's been a fabulous life.
