Jackie's Story
Entered college on a four year art scholarship but lost it after 3rd semester. I was having major boyfriend problems and dropped below 2.0 grade point average (2.0 - pathetic!) At that point I switched to Art education. Taught Art for 8 years (also Speech and Drama for 1 year). Decided I didn't make enough money teaching in mostly private schools so picked up enough math credits to get a job in public schools. Got the job. Bad move. Stayed that first year while I took enough math to get into grad school. Good move. Got my masters in Computer Science (at that time it was taught in Math department).
Whew! Ok, got a job as programmer, 2 years at W. R. Grace. Left there for programmer job at Fed Ex. Found programming boring so transferred to training developer in Maintenance Technical Training where I was able to create computer based training courses that replaced or enhanced 'stand up' ...Expand for more
training. Got to do my own computer graphics for the courses and loved it!! The best part was for several years I was the only female developer in the department (loved that, too)
After 8 years or so, moved to International Training, again loved it. Got to travel some in both jobs at Fed Ex.
Now enjoying retirement from Fed Ex and spending time with Peggy's daughter and grandchildren who call me Nana. Unfortunately, Peggy passed away 10 years ago and sister Sue passed last year (2009). Thankfully I still have my baby sister Denise!!
I always wanted to be a art teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right.
