Jacqueline's Story
After high school, I got my degree in business and computers. I had a professor that told us that by the year 2000, people will be doing their shopping and banking from their home computer! I thought that was pretty interesting... I worked in the computer industry for most of my 20s and early 30s, chatted with Bill Gates (he wanted me to buy his new product Microsoft Word for our company to sell,) made some money, had a nice car, got married to my high-school boyfriend, etc. But then I had my children and realized that my children were more important than a career.
I have two kids. My 20 year old daughter is a senior at UCLA, (she left high school after 10th grade,) and my 14 year old son is in 8th grade. As a stay-at-home mom, I discovered my true calling, becom...Expand for more

As I was going through a prolonged and bitter divorce, I went back to school. I earned a teaching credential and masters in education. During one of my special education classes, I found that many of the symptoms of Aspergers Syndrome (a form of high-functioning autism,) were present in my troubled son. His eventual diagnosis was heartbreaking, but a relief.
Currently, I am an elementary school substitute. Luckily, I work mostly in long-term assignments. I can spend more time and get to know the students. I am looking for a permanent position. Jobs are hard to come by right now, but I keep trying. I love teaching. My son and daughter are my inspiration and my purpose. Their difficulties and triumphs have made me a better person and teacher.
