Jacquie's Story
Hey hey class of 69!
I've been living in France, in a little town in Normandy, since 1975. That was after I finished doing my MA (in French of course) at UWM. I got married to a French man and followed him back to France, and that is where I still am. I still do come back to Racine and the US in general on vacation, and still have several good friends that I meet up with every year from college, though I don't have any news from people from high school.
So what have I done since then? Well I have two wonderful sons, Nicolas and Yann, and one fantastic dog, Gaston, as you can see in the photo.
I worked with my husband in a family-owned business for 18 years - we sold building materials, basically everything you needed to build your house, from the foundations up to the paint, tile, electricity etc. Like a mini French Home Depot. So I learned how to run a business, do...Expand for more
accounting, HR, sales etc. in this job. As our kids were not interested in taking over the business, we sold it in 1999, and I went back to my first career, which was teaching. But this time it was teaching English instead of French to people who needed it for their jobs. This meant I went in to loads of companies, met lots of people, it was very interesting and rewarding.
And I did that job for about 10 years. But as I did quite a few translations for them, I little by little thought about starting up my own business in technical and corpporate translation, which I did in 2005 "2BTraduction" and started phasing out the English training and ramping up the translation. So since 2010, I have been working full time from home which I love, as my own boss, in French to English technical translation and corporate communication.
So, in a nutshell, that's a bit about me now!
