James's Story
Life
James Amundsen is the second son of an American-soldier father and Yugoslavian-immigrant mother. He was born in Wiesbaden, Germany, in 1974, and was raised in Cumberland County, North Carolina. James graduated from Seventy-First Senior High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, as a North Carolina Scholar. He received a 4-year Commandant's Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship to study electrical engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona. While waiting for his tour of duty to begin, James became a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician in his hometown of Hope Mills. He continued to work as an EMT throughout his Air Force career, both as a volunteer and as an instructor.
James gained valuable training and experience while serving his country. He excelled in his technical and professional military education. He was promoted ahead of his peers on every occasion. While assigned to the 728th Air Control Squadron, James was deployed three times to support combat air operations in Kuwait, Southern Iraq, and Kosovo. For his service, James received the Air Force Commendation Medal, two Air Force Achievement Medals, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, among many other decorations and awards.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force for six years, James left active duty and became a reservist so he could pursue a civilian career in Information Technology. A new job allowed James and his wife, Tonya, to move to Middle Tennessee in the fall of 2000. It was not long before they discovered Williamson County and were drawn to its beauty and prosperity. After living in apartments and military housing for over eight years, they finally bought their first home in Franklin, Tennessee, in 2002.

erbilt University Medical Center's Radiology Department as an on-site engineer and technical consultant providing the hospital with various medical imaging solutions. James has managed this multi-million dollar contract for over five years and has helped to triple VUMC's imaging revenues. His experience, knowledge, and focus make him an asset to his company and its customers.
As a politically ambitious Young Republican, James recently made his first attempt to seek public office. He was a candidate for 9th District County Commissioner in the May 2nd, 2006, Williamson County Republican Primary. James ran a very positive, proactive campaign against two well-known incumbents in a best-two-out-of-three election. Though he was not able to unseat the current commissioners, James campaign still appealed to 44% of the voters. James was encouraged by the favorable response and is committed to honoring those votes by remaining actively involved in county government. He even promises to run for office again. In the meantime, James attends and participates in Williamson County Commission meetings and hopes to receive a citizen appointment to one of its many committees.
James continues to serve and involve himself in his community. He is a Chairman's Circle member of the Republican Party of Williamson County and supports his local representatives. James is serving his second term as Treasurer and Membership Director for the Williamson County Young Republicans. James is a member of the Brentwood Cool Springs Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Council. He is an amateur competitive cyclist for the Harpeth Bicycles Race Team and is a member of the Harpeth Bike Club. James is actively involved with Hiram Lodge #7 F&AM, a charitable fraternal organization, and the American Legion, a military veteranÂs organization. James and Tonya attend Brentwood Baptist Church.
