James's Story
It's been a long time but here goes...I left Henryetta back in 1983 and finished school in Lawton, Ok. I worked for a while as a painter and then as an electrician in Oklahoma City where I went to Foster Estes Institute of Technology. I joined the Navy in 1986 as an Electronic Warfare Technician and I'm still a sailor. I am currently stationed in Memphis, Tennessee at Navy Headquarters Command (NPC). I am a Chief Cryptologic Technician Surface Warfare qualified (CTTC, SW). I am retiring this summer after 23 and a half years. I am also enrolled in the University of Oklahoma Masters Program in Administrative Leadership. I will graduate this fall. I have had a good life and career. several countries throughout the world. I have been stationed from Pensacola, FL to San Diego, CA, to Norfolk, VA to Bremerton WA. I have served onboard four ships, one training unit and served an instructor tour teaching advanced electronics maintenance at a Naval Technical Training Center. I made Chief back in 2003 and it was probably my proudest moment of my career. I bought some land back in Oklahoma a few years ago and I try to get back home to deer hunt and see my father and brother every year but I didn't make it back last year. My father and brother live in Prague, Oklahoma. I don't know what I'll do when I retire but I may try teaching. I doubt I'll ever move back to Oklahoma but I'll always be a Sooner at heart.
