James Botelle:

CLASS OF 1970
Baltimore, MD

James's Story

Life I've been married to my 'high school sweetheart,' Pat Woods (class of '72) and we shared our 25th anniversary in April 2002. We have two children: Lauren, 21, is a senior at Washington College in Chestertown; Christopher just graduated from Franklin High School and will attend Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA in the fall. Professionally, I am the editor of Carroll Families and Carroll Senior magazines, two monthly publications covering Carroll County and a family-oriented magazine for York and Adams counties in PA (it keeps me busy). After two years at Essex Comm. College, I dropped out (more interested in performing in shows than studying) and worked full time at Montgomery Ward in Essex. I worked 13 years at the Social Security Administration before resigning to return to college full time. Received BS in Mass Communications (journalism) and soon wrote for weekly community paper. After six years, began this job as editor. I enjoy reading, traveling and singing. Have continued to sing and perform in a barbershop quartet a...Expand for more
nd chorus. The quartet has won some awards and we are rated 14th in the Mid-Atlantic District. Getting ready to go to district competition this fall and are adding more performances all the time. Workplace After graduation, I worked at a cafeteria in Ocean Grove, NJ for the summer as, first, a busboy and then a cashier. Once I began classes at Essex Comm. College, I worked part-time in the paint dept. of Montgomery Ward in Essex. Dropping out in 72, I worked at Ward's till 1976 when I moved on to SSA. I worked there 13 years, resigning in 1989 to return to college full time at Towson Univ. (then TSU). After graduation, I worked at the PostmanPlus in Carney from June to Oct. 92. It was owned by my father and stepmother. When my father died from cancer in June of that year, I worked the store till I could leave to find my own way. I began working as a staff writer for the Community Times, a weekly newspaper, in March, 1994. In March 2000, I became editor of two monthly magazines, adding a third one in September 2001. I'm still there.
