James's Story

You know, for many reasons, I had a rough time trying to go to high school. I remember being in Mr. Bisset's mechanical drawing class, when Mr. Bisset got upset with someone (not me), and said, "all the teachers know who is going to finish school, and we also know WHO ISN'T, and we know that those of you who aren't going to finish, know it too"! Well, you would think that that statement would have been an inspiration to finish at Lincoln, alas for me it wasn't, well not right away. I used to drive a 1950 primer gray ford coupe, which sometimes had to be pushed to start. Later, I had a 1952 olive green Ford Crown Victoria coupe, and for a while had a 1959 white Chevrolet convertible. I tried out for the football and basketball team, but at the time I smoked and did not realize that I reeked of tobacco smoke and nicotine. At 18, I worked at Ivar's fish bar at the Pier for a year and partied as much as I could......not a good idea either. Got a small Honda 305cc dream bike, never had ridden a bike before, bought it from a guy that lived on top of Queen Anne Hill. What a ride down the "mountain" that was.......wow! Was a parking lot attendant at 2nd and Pike garage for a while. At 19 yrs old, sc...Expand for more
ared me to see some 30-year-old parking lot attendants, thinking that that could be me in the future. Joined the Army in February 1970, got my GED at Ft. Lewis, later went to Ft. Rucker, Ala for Rotary Wing Flight School, went to night school to get an Assoc Degree (still short). Quit smoking in 1980 (what a nasty habit). Retired from the US Army as a Chief Warrant Officer. After retiring from the military, worked at a Chevrolet dealership as a Finance Manager for 14 years, then kind of stayed out of the work force for a little over a year.......missed being part of the military and took on a job as a Security Guard at Ft. Carson for 3 years..........and began to find relating with the young soldiers, although great, was probably time to come to an end, when all of a sudden, I was being called the "old man", that it might be time for me to try something else, which is still on the horizon, so, just hanging around watching football and trying to keep up with a workout routine. Anyway, I have a great grandson, James, born 2001. I have my own workout room with a dry sauna in the basement, but gosh, it is comfortable on this couch sipping a Starbucks latte! So..............what have you been up to?
