James's Story
Left HHS in June. Started U of Md in Fall spent approx 2 yrs there. Awarded green suit in 1968 compliments of Uncle Sam. Spent 4 yrs with uncle sammy. Got a MOS in computer systems after leaving Officer Candidate school in Ft. Benning Ga. and thanks to military dr almost lost sight due to toxoplasmosis. Several eye surgeries later got medical discharge in 1972 and began work in computer industry at Bendix Field Engr in Columbia, Left after abt 6 months for Control Data Corp. yrs plus as field engineer in world wide fly to site support group. Got to see England,Holland,France,Germany and Russia supporting Supercomputers. Often think about change in industry. First system loaded from paper tape last system ran at -320 degrees below zero. In 1999 left CDC and started working for Veritas Software as software support engineer. Merged with Symantec software in 2000's have spent time in sales, marketing,support, support planning, as trainer and now am courseware developer.
