James's Story
Hello All,
If we knew each other at Van Nuys High, or elsewhere, please don't hesitate to contact me as I enjoy hearing how old friends are doing.
My track since high school has been a long one. I traveled a lot after school, took classes, traveled some more, etc. For a while I lived in Flagstaff, Arizona, a beautiful mountain and ski area in northern Arizona. Did I mention that I lived in a tent? Yep, the old ideas from the hippie era die hard. Lived like that with a bunch of other gypsies for most of 1975, then moved back to Los Angeles.
After that I started selling Persian Rugs around the country. Drove from one city to the next for over a year, held auctions, and sold rugs like there was no tommrow. Lot of fun and got to see the country.
Began doing some writing, and taking courses as an English major, while working as a computer operator. After a few years, I became an IBM Systems Programmer, but left it to find a more creative field.

eelance writing for magazines and newspapers.
I married in 1986 (to Nancy), and we have one son. If you remember the L.A. riots in 1992, then you may know why I said the heck with Los Angeles. We moved to - ready? - Minneapolis where I became a full-time journalist. The winters were cold, but it's a nice part of the country. After a few year there, I jumped into an online news company at the beginning of the Internet news boom. It was interesting, and I had the chance to write for the world. In 2002, I moved to Connecticut to work at an NBC station as their managing editor of online content. I stayed there until 2007, when I returned to print journalism.
As of now I write the news during the day, and work on a novel at night.
Like in high school, I still enjoy a lot of the same things. I'm an avid sailor, and I still do a lot of backpacking and cycling. Still like music (just took my son to see his first concert, The Police).
I also can be contacted on Face Book.
