James's Story
Hey, how ya doin? You know that's a good question. I sometimes ask myself who I am and probably more often how did I wind up in Minnesota? When I left NUHS. I gathered a little over 60 credits at Brooklyn College while training at Bensonhurst Volunteer Ambulance Service to be certified in Advance First Aid and CPR. I got a job at Victory Memorial Hospital in the emergency room. I then went on to be an EMT at Beekman Downtown Hospital. I started working with EMS at the time in 1977. I became a paramedic in 1979. After the merger in 1996 with the NYC Fire Dept, I was the first graduating class from the fire academy. I lived in Manhattan from 1993 thru 1996 to have the "city experience". I rented apts in Brooklyn up until then. After 1996 I bought a condo in Bay Ridge. I got hurt a few years later and after nine eleven I needed a change. nd moved to Minnesota to work as a Chemical Dependency Counselor at Hazelden. I worked two years with teenagers and emotionally burnt out. I like Minnesota very much, its an easy place to live. This is God's country, you can see the horizon here. I decided to stay. I sold my condo in Bay Ridge and bought a townhouse in a surburb 15 minutes northwest of Minneapolis. I felt I needed a no brainer job and the Metro Transit System of the Twin Cities were hiring bus drivers. So guess what? I became a bus driver. Over the next 5 yrs I got married, rescued a black lab from the ASPCA, his name is Bear, quit driving the bus and became self employed with the American Heart Assn. I certify the public in CPR,First Aid and AED training. I am actually looking forward to the reunion especially after more than 35 yrs of seeing you guys. Stay in touch,
