James's Story
Life
James Michael Dorsey is an explorer, writer, and photographer who has traveled extensively in 35 countries. He has made seven extended trips through Asia and nine through Europe. He has kayaked, canoed or sailed the rim of fire from Southern Alaska to the tip of Baja, plus the Sea of Cortez and the California Channel Islands to study cetaceans.
His first book is entitled ÂTears, Fear and Adventure, and he is a frequent contributor to the Christian Science Monitor, Oceans and Wavelength magazines. His articles have also appeared in BBC WIldlife,Conde Nast Traveller UK, California Wild, Sea Kayaker, GoWorldTravel, Outdoor Japan and Seventh Wave magazines plus both the China and Alaska books of the TravelersTales series, The Seattle Times, Orlando Sentinel, L.A. His photographs have been featured on the cover of England,s Seventh Wave magazine and on the websites of the National Wildlife Federation, Ocean Conservancy, International Cetacean Society, and twice as the Kodak International ÂPhoto of the Day. The Kodak photos were shown on the Times Square Jumbotron screen in New York. He is a certified naturalist with the American Cetacean Society and Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, and guides whale trips in both California and Mexico. He has appeared on National Public RadioÂs ÂWeekend America program and frequently lectures about his travels and whale encounters. He is a former vice president and director of the Los Angeles AdventurerÂs Club.
