James's Story
A short update 26 February 2024. I'm still living in Turin Italy. For the most part I have been traveling around Italy, down to Lecce in the heel and up to Zurich Switzerland and Germany. Next week I will be in Villafrenche Sur Mar France. This area is on the French Riviera between Nice and Manoco. I'm still healthy, I workout at Virgin Active gym in Torino plus I have some small equipment in my apartment. My Italian still sucks but I continue trying to improve. I have a couple lady friends that help me. I still have not adjusted to stores closing for lunch. Larger businesses do not close for lunch. The small businesses, mom and pop stores, doctors, dentist, hardware stores all do. And it is not a 30 minute lunch, a minimum of one hour to 2.5 hours are their lunch times. Plus they do not re-open on time. No need to rush around, it's Italy. Well this is it for the moment. I hope everyone is doing well and staying active.
Post graduation 1965, I immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps. In late 1967 I was in route to Vietnam joining the First Battalion Fourth Marine Regiment. I was wounded while completing a year tour in Vietnam and returned ...Expand for more
stateside. A favorite picture of me shows me taking a cigarette break on convoy security at LZ Stud. I stopped smoking 50 years ago. After 6 years in the Corps I got out and for the next 5 years I held various jobs. Of those jobs my favorite was being an EMT in Richmond and San Pablo cities. In January 1977, I started my career with the U.S. DOJ, Immigration and Naturalization Service. I held multiple positions, Border Patrol Agent, Special Agent, Internal Affairs Special Agent and into management. After 25 years with INS I retired. With in months I was appointment a position with the State of California. I held Investigative Special Agent positions with CA OHSA, CA lottery and finally CA DOJ, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement. After the start of my Immigration career I enlisted in the Army Reserve, I served a short tour in Korea with Army CID. After 27 years of military service, active and reserve, I retired from Army CID as a Special Agent, Chief Warrant Officer 3, Several years later I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada working security for the Tropicana Casino Hotel and other security companies. In early 2022, I moved to Turin Italy for retirement.
