James's Story

College After graduating from Yates June of 1960, I moved to Denver Colorado the following December. After arriving in Denver I began searching for a job. After a short while I began working downtown Denver in a department store. After a short six month there,I found a more challenging position with another company. I began to play sports for various companies in a copetive basketball league, although I never played b-ball at yates, but I went on to play AAU basketball for 15 years, tarveling from City to City during tournament season. In the meantime in 1961- 1975 I began working for Dow Chemical Co. for the next thirteen years whom was contracted by the Federal Goverment (DOE) to produce nuclear weapons. In 1975 I decided to try my hand at Law Enforcement in which I became a Policeman for five years. from there I went back to the Goverment for another ten years, where I opted out for early retirement in 1993. I decided to relocate from Colorado and meved back to Houston, where I presently live. After trying total retirement for a year I found that being alone at home wasn't for me. ext five years at the Texas Medical Center patroling the Center grounds and buildings, responding to needed Doctors, nurses and students complaints, writing citations, unlocking vehicles, jump starting cars and jumping into Braes Bayou to rescue a man whom had driven over the embankment and into the bayou setting his vehicle on fire in the middle of the semi water filled bayou. If that wasn't enough after hurryng to the scene to find that the car was locked with him passed - out, that meant I had to hurry back uphill to get an un-lock kit with the proper tool to unlock the vehicle. Yes at that time I was huffing and puffing but did manage to overcome this unusual obstacle and with the help of two other guards we managed to rescue the man by getting him from the burning car and up the steep hill to the street level and waited for the paramedic and HPD arrival. Of coarse this action warranted a employement of the month citation and a newsworthy story in the Houston Chronicle. After that job I was hired by Exult Inc. in the Woodlands as a Facility Supervisor for two years until the September 11 disaster in which shortly aftward the company began to downsize and of coarse I drew one of the short straws. In closing I'm still employed three days a week to keep my sanity. Until further notice.
