James's Story
Life
You knew me in High School as Sprout, I still go by that name, but not as often as I used to. Mostly because I'm not around people that called me that.
I recently moved to Thatcher Arizona because the smelter in Playas closed down.
After graduation, I worked at the smelter for a contractor for about three months with Robby Williams, they had a reduction in jobs and I tried to get a job with the smelter, it never happened and I was tired of laying around the parents house, so I joined the Navy on September 16th 1980. I saw a lot of the world for four years. I went to Hawaii three times, also the Phillipins, Perth Australia, Kenya Africa, Singapore. I lived in San Diego mostly, but spent time in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago.

d to get a job in San Diego, but never could, too many people going for the same job. I returned to Playas and stayed with my parents for about 2 months and worked for another contractor at the smelter for a year or so and then was hired at the smelter in June of 1985 and worked in the funace for almost four years until I bid out to the Technical Services department and then the Environmental Services department, where I worked for 12 years until the smelter shut down in September of 1999. I then transfered to Morenci Arizona and that is where I work today for the Environmental Services department.
I am married to Karen Kugler and we have two kids, Jesse is nine and Venica is seven. We all miss Playas, but are adjusting to our new town of Thatcher. Come and see us anytime, you all are allways welcome.
