James (Jim Or Jimmy)'s Story

I graduated mid-year 1955 from Abilene High School. After completing school I joined the U.S. Air Force, finished two years of college while in the Air Force, then completed the final two years of college after military discharge. I graduated from Southwestern University in California. I always wanted to be a military man when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right. I served military tours in Texas, Mississippi, Morocco, Turkey, and finished up in New York. However, I only spent 4 years in the Air Force, because I got a better job as a civilian air traffic controller, the same job I did in the Air Force. I retired from my civilian retirement after 33 years in the same job. I left behind some good friends in Abilene when I ...Expand for more
joined the Air Force - especially Jerry Honn, my best friend, and Inys Haines, my first girlfriend. I hope they remember me fondly as I do them. As I have travelled around the States and the world in my military duties and later as a vacationer, I met a lot of very nice people. I recall them all with fond remembrances. I married a girl from Idaho in 1960, am still married to her and had three children. A son who died in 1981 from the effects of a chronic illness he had from childhood and two girls who both live in California with their families - both have two children who make me a proud grandpa. Now I live in a little town outside of Denver, CO with my wife. We have both slowed down a little bit due to various ailments, but overall are in pretty good health for old geezers.
