James's Story

Basically after graduation from high school (1976) knowing college was not in the stars and sure hoping that the shipyard wasn't either, I joined the United States Army after one last great summer looking for that next chapter in my life. What a chapter it became, actually one that wrote for the next twenty-one years of my life!!! I never thought I was that guy who would enjoy the structure, regiment and discipline that the military would provide, I was so wrong. I never thought of anything else, as I look back, the best parts of my life happened while serving God and Country. I met and married the woman of my dreams (a soldier herself at the time) whom shared in my life's journey and gave me two beautiful children and from our children, we now have sic wonderful grandchildren. I was lucky though, we traveled the world as a family and had the military to thank for providing the means. Not every assignment was easy but we always had one another and made the best of each. I would not trade or omit any of them, what memories we have of each of them. Of course each chapter must close in order to write the next. I retired from the United States Army in 1997, a Senior Chief Warrant Officer Three serving my last assignment as a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division down in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. h, that "not in the stars" statement I made earlier, well, during that last tour I studied hard, went to way too many night classes, but in 1996 I earned my Bachelor of Applied Science from Campbell University, Buies Creek, North Carolina. "GO CAMELS" After this closure, I returned home with my family to start my new career in the civil sector as a Manufacturing Supervisor with Canon Virginia Inc, a local International Manufacturing Company. We have purchased our first and only home here on the peninsula, I have watched my children's graduations, I have watched my children's weddings, I have survived cancer, I have added "Grandfather" as a new sir name in my role of our family, we all continue to love and share in our annual retreats to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, I still get choked up when I hear "Taps", I often get a bit misty when I hear the words, "Duty, Honor, Country", I love pirate folklore and with great misfortune I have buried both of my parents. So that is my story, brief in written content here but very much full in my mind as I look back over the many years since high school (Go Bruins, Class of 76 still "RULES")!!! I am not sure what the next chapter will bring, but I am sure there is one that will need to be written and I am hoping the good Lord will allow me to be one who writes it...
