James's Story
After Archies, I attended UMass Amherst Fall 1965 Semester but, due to family finances, didn't return. With the draft breathing down my neck, I enlisted in the Marines in June the same week I asked the same young lady from Braintree High that I had taken to our senior prom (and hers). I left for Parris Island in early October, shortly after she started nursing school. A year later Terri (Centorino) and I were married (9/9/67). After a year and 1/2 in NC I left for Vietnam and returned a year later. Our first child, a daughter, was born while I was there. Six months later I left active duty and returned to my pre-corp employer. Our second daughter was born a few months later. In 1973, I started night class at Quincy (Jr) College and after graduation five years later took additional courses at Northeastern extension locations. During that time we had our third and fourth daughters. The latter just three weeks before the great blizzard of 1978. roller with a short stint in the public sector as Manager of Administration and Finance at the One-Stop Career Center in Brockton, an operation of the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute. In '80 we had our 5th daughter and in '83 and '85 we also added 2 sons to our string of five daughters. Currently, I am the Controller at Controller Service & Sales, an industrial electrical distributor in Avon with an office in Providence, RI. My wife is retired and I will likely retire before the end of this year.
The kids are now grown and we now live in a smaller home in an 'over 55' (I prefer "55 & better") park in West Bridgewater. Now (9/9/16) we are expecting our 9th Grandchild later this month which will make 6 boys and 3 girls. The oldest will be 24 in October.
Update 12/9/2017: Well, I retired at the end of October (2016), but haven't figured out a routine as yet. Working on volunteering with the Metro South Chamber of Commerce. It will keep me in touch with the business folks in the area and maybe provide some consulting opportunities. I am also being encouraged to participate in SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives).
