James's Story
Wow... what a journey.
After high school, I had no idea what I really wanted in life. Tried college, thinking that I wanted to teach but... no.
Worked at the Seymour Highway Electric Company and then Madison's for four years as a DJ and that's how I fell into radio. "Big Jim" Russell of KLUR was in the club one night, asked me if I wanted a job and the next thing I knew, 27 years in the business had piled up.
I worked in Wichita Falls for the old QV 103 and KNIN FM, as well, leaving radio in 1994 to work for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club. Talk about exciting! New ball park and we ...Expand for more
hosted the 1995 All-Star Game.
After that, on to Abilene to work for Cumulus Broadcasting (couldn't stay out of the biz) as Program Director at a Classic Rock Radio Station for seven years... and spent time as a drummer for several rock bands.
The traveling bug bit hard in 2006 and I moved to Auckland, New Zealand for a year, living with friends and though it's beautiful, it wasn't home.
I'm in Tulsa, Oklahoma now and it's not a bad place. The music scene is fantastic, the weather is good and while it takes a bit to get used to 3.2 beer... I've learned to adjust.
