James McKenzie:

CLASS OF 1982
Lakewood, CO

James's Story

Life I have been married for the first and only time for five years. My wife is originally from Honduras. We have no kids yet, but hope to have one of our own or adopt by next year. She works as a program assistant for the Learning Source, a non-profit which helps people get their GEDs or with their English (ESL). I am currently working as a court interpreter in Spanish. School I enjoyed high school and made friends and learned a lot. I was hoping to go to our 25th reunion this summer, but did not hear about it. I enjoyed being in the bands and playing in the orchestra for the musicals. I was excited for our basketball, football and baseball teams that did well while we were there. College I attended CU Boulder and after trying out Engineering and Music for a year, I settled with Business and Spanish and graduated with a B.A. in Commercial Spanish and Latin American Studies in '87. After working as a court interpreter in Denver metro courts and a translator for two years, I moved to So. Calif. for 3 months and...Expand for more
then to Chicago for 10 years. I studied at Moody Bible Institute for a year in Chicago. Workplace While in Chicago in the '90's, I worked as a court interpreter and in social services helping people with addictions. I also went on several mission trips to Mexico, Spain and South America. I met my future wife through her bro-in law who visited the Spanish speaking church that I went to in Chicago. She was living in N.J at the time and we married there in 2002 after I had moved back to Colorado in 2001. I worked at Denver Health Hospital and Adams County Social Services helping low income people qualify for programs. They were rewarding jobs. I have done some probation work and hope to go back to it later next year. Right now, I am a court interpreter, primarily for Federal immigration court. I have traveled out of state on several occasions in the past two years to Louisiana, Missouri, Atlanta, Utah, Oklahoma and Idaho. I hope all is well with you and hope you will write sometime, God bless you. Jim McKenzie
