James's Story

Life Went to Texas A&M for a wasted 2 years, then to the Marines for 4 years. Afterwards to SMU for a BA and Fordham in NYC for graduate work. Taught in college until 1974; then went into the NYC law department. On to the Appellate Division of the NY Supreme Court (law school at night) until my retirement in 1999. Now retired and siang as a hobby with the Collegiate Chorale in Carnegie Hall 3-4 times a year. Hiked much of the Appalachian Trail in 2000 (1450 miles) and 2001 (1461 miles) (broke down in CT both years) and began trying to finish off last 700 miles in 2002. Now, in 2015, I still have 204 miles to go, which I will probably do during the summer. Kept busy building stage sets and theatrical scenery as a hobby, while continuing to sing in CH. Started studying Italian in 2004, and have continued ...Expand for more
to study that language every summer in Italy (Gotten pretty good at it by now.) Taught acting and directing Shakespeare during the summer months when I was not in Italy. Removed item from bucket list in 2014, when I did a round-trip to England on the Queen Mary 2. Too fancy to do more than once, I thought. Visited Robert Burns cottage in Scotland during the trip. In 2022 I will go back on board that big ship for a 26-day cruise from NYC to the Norwegian fjords and back. Being retired is much better than working.. I find I can write for hours, without any pressure to do so. I hope to publish my book of fables sometime this year (2021).. I have moved to Treviso, up in the Veneto region of Italy, where I studied Italian for years. It is 35 minutes from Venice by train, so I will be going there frequently.
