James W.'s Story

Life Childhood was spent traveling in northeastern states. Travel became the norm after joining the Navy. I was able to see many places in and out of the USA that I perhaps never would have. The proud father of 7, grandfather of 13 and still married to the same great lady. After being injured in the service after going on 8 years of service, became a disabled veteran. Following service, I worked as an executive in the Trucking Industry for 14 years. We then moved to the beautiful NC mountains. Here I worked as a Disabled Veteran Job Councilor in The Employment Security Commission several years before moving into the Printing Industry for 12 years. This coincided with my lifetime side career as a Poet/Writer. I have been published and received awards for my work and continue to write to this day. The kids are all grown and I am no longer able to go out and work. My disability has become plural rather than singular so now I have time to write and keep from wasting my mind on the things that have put me in a chair. I work as a volunteer for veterans organizations and hold office. I do work as a Service Officer for the Disabled American Veterans to help fellow vets get their benefits and medical care and hold the office of Commander. The key to life is never to give in to any illness nor to ever stop using your mind actively. And if you also write, "Visualize from the Mind, Write from the Heart." School Was sort of a rebellious type. Liked to write and create poetry. Had an English teacher whom said I would waste my time. However, kept up my study and writing and have been published many times. Enjoyed my years in school and cherish the many relationships I had with all types of classmates. School is not a good experience unless you take the journey with many valued friends and le...Expand for more
arned teachers. I often think of the many great people who were a part of my school years. Memories are a vast collection of things that cannot be replaced however valued we did not know they would be when they were happening then. Thank you all for being a part of my life when then passing through. College Because of my health problems from my military service and seeing others afflicted, I went on to study Nursing and working with the disabled and needy. I continue to study literature and am a happily published poet. Workplace Have excelled in Personnel Administration, Employment Placement, Literature (poetry), CEO of Trucking firm, Printing Supervisor, medical aid and benefits counciling. Was listed in Lexingtons Whos Who of Business People and other accolades. Published many times and awarded Poet of Year awards. Currently do self publishing of selected works. Currently am disability Retired from the workforce and time is spent from home working on my writing career and volunteer work assisting disabled veterans organizations with their needs and programs. Military From day 1 my time in the Navy was a time I'll not forget. From Boot Camp to the passing of Warrant Officer exams, from Great Lakes to Vietnam, from healthy kid to injured disability retired veteran I would not give those years up for anything. Sad that my career was cut short but rewarded as a civilian with the training I was able to obtain in the service applied well. The ribbons from Cuba to Nam mean nothing compared to the many people and places that so enriched my life. As a writer I have so many pictures, places and scenes pass before my view. Many I may and have been able to write about and some will never see the written word. To those whom have been there with me, thanks for getting back.
