James's Story
Life
Graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1980.
Served in the US Navy from 1980-1986 as a Naval Flight Officer (Electronic-Counter Measures Officer on the EA-6B Prowler. Stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station from 1982-1986. Served aboard the USS Nimitz and USS America with VAQ-135 from 1982-1985.
Married Debra R. Till of Oak Harbor, WA on Sept 17, 1983.
Spent 2 years in Tacoma as a A&P Mechanic student. Also Flight instructed and drilled in the Reserves. This time was preparatory to applying as a Pilot/Mechanic with Mission Aviation Fellowship.
1988-1989 was spent in Indianapolis getting practical experience in Aircraft mechanic work while still Flight Instructing. Moved to Spokane, WA to take a job as a Pilot/Mechanic on DC-3 and Convair 440 aircraft doing Air Cargo. MA...Expand for more
F dream put on indefinite hold due to family health considerations (son's asthma)
I was hired by Horizon Air as a pilot in March 1990 and have worked their ever since. Upgraded to Captain in 1995. Presently flying the Bombardier Q-400 aircraft. (74 seat Turboprop) Our routes include the Pacific Northwest plus BC, AB, CA, MT and NV
Debbie and I have six children by birth and two more by adoption.
We live about 30 miles north of Portland, OR in the country east of La Center, WA. We're active members of Cherry Grove Friends Church. We home school our children assisted by the local Homelink public school program. I'm expecting my first grandchild in February 2006. I still enjoy distance running. I finished my 6th marathon running Boston in April 2004. Sailing and Canoeing are my other great joys.
