James's Story
Went to UofM for 5 1/2 years, got a Masters in Electrical Engineering. Went to Japan between junior and senior years as an undergrad, because I was taking Japanese as a free elective on my way to becoming an electrical engineer (these were the early 80's when we all thought the Japanese were going to take over the world, especially in engineering). In 85 went to work for Boeing (Seattle was a nice town, has jumped the shark since, in my opinion). Then to San Francisco for a year (August 88 to November 89), then to Tokyo for 3 years (89 thru early 93). H...Expand for more
ad (not me, my girlfriend) a baby son in Japan in 1992, then moved to Grenoble, France for about a year (1993-1994) for work, then to Portland Oregon where we've been ever since (my girlfriend/now wife, that is, and our children). Had another baby (son) in 1995 in Portland. Having fulfilled my evolutionary purpose (2 sons), I spend my time cooking and writing software. Only the 2nd activity provides income. Same company (Mentor Graphics) who was kind enough to send me to Japan and France. Liberal, I voted for Obama, like most of my Oregon compatriots.
