James's Story

Life I can do this in short...after graduation, I joined the Air Force, came back from Basic Training, married Judy Blanchard, and was assigned to Omaha, Nebraska as a Computer Maintenance technician. After 4 years, I cross-trained into Air Traffic Control (for the military) and moved to Cocoa Beach, Fl, where Jamie and Jason, my twins were born. Seven years later, I was reassigned on a remote tour to Greenland for 1 year, and upon return, Judy decided to move back to Florida with the kids and her boyfriend, while I was assigned to California. I remarried later that year to Anette, a Danish girl I knew from Greenland, and she moved out to California. In 1991, I got an assignment the Honolulu, Hawaii serving as an Advisor to the Air National Guard for Air Traffic Control. Late 1994, I accepted an assignment to Spangdahlem Air Force Base in Germany where I stayed for 4 more years. Then a quick 2 year tour in Turkey where I retired from the Air Force after 24 years. We drove to Denmark, where I got an apartment, started Danish language school, and today, I own a nice house, work as a Technical Writer for Microsoft, have 2 kiddies, a 9 year old boy and an 8 year girl. The twins still live in Cocoa Beach for the most part, and go to college. Update: In 2005, I finally got through a messy divorce with the Danish girl, Anette. Seem her only motive for getting me into Denmark with the kids was to collect the furniture and my pension. Well, she didnt get the pension...so there are some benefits to living in Denmark after all. In October of 2005, I realized I was going to be alone in a foreign country with no kids or family for Christmas. In desperation, I signed up with a profile on Match.com dating site...and in that very same weekend, I met my true soul-mate, and best friend ever...my sweet Lisbeth. Liz lived just 10 miles down the road from me, a single mother of 1 daughter, 14 at the time. We moved in together by January that year, and in Sep 2007, we got married. My life has never been better, happier, and love-filled as it is now. Each and every day with my Liz is truly a blessing. Makes all the stuff I went through with the wrong people for all those years worth it!!! School Let's see, I only went to Dixie for 2/3 of 11th, and then 12th grade so I missed meeting a bunch of folks, especially being such an intravert as I was with the big, honking nose I had (yep...had that big puppy sliced right off paid for by YOUR tax dollars in the military). Yeah, I didn't do too much in school...it was a piece of cake so I didn't really have to study to get those "A" grades. But I sure did love going to Business Ed classes in the morning with all the girls...I was one of two guys...gotta love that! And I worked in the afternoons at Sun Bank downtown St. Pete...was a blast! I still remember I only got paid $450 a month, and going into the military was a raise to $625. Has that bank folded yet??? Colleg...Expand for more
e Well let's see...Wayland Baptist University night classes...I have to admit, if I hadn't had the mandatory 6 hours in New and Old Testament, I still wouldn't know anything about the books! :o) Actually, I thought the whole degree thing was pretty much a joke...if you went to class, did your homework, studied a bit for tests...and memorized the quiz questions for the Mid and Final, anyone can get a 4.0. Except for Macro/Micro Econmics and the Investsments class...I can't remember that teacher's name...but HE sure made me try to get my "A"...Hopefully, I will return to school here in Denmark after I finish my Danish language classes and work toward a Masters... Workplace Sun Bank and Trust 1977-79 What a blast! US Air Force 1979 - 2002 Loved it, loved to leave it. Microsoft Business Solutions, Copenhagen Denmark (Present) I can not believe I get paid for this...I would do it for free!!!! Military Went to Lackland in 1979, as a guaranteed job in Computer Maintenance. I don't have all the details right now, but went to Offutt AFB, Nebraska until 1983, then to Patrick AFB in Cocoa Beach as an Air Traffic controller until 1986, where I spent a year at Sondestrom AB, Greenland. Mid 1987 I went to George AFB Califorinia, and in 1990 to Hickam AFB, Hawaii. In late 1994, off to Spangdahlem AB in Germany for 5 years, and then a 2 year tour at Incirlik AB, Turkey where I retired after 24 years as an E-8. Loved my career, but had enough. I was #1 non-selectee for CMSgt and they only picked 3 that year, instead of the usual 6-8. Guess it was never meant to be. UPDATE 2009 - Damn this a long profile...are you really so bored that you actually read this far down? :o) Well, I still work at Microsoft, but I am now trying to sell my house here in Denmark and move back to sunny Florida. Life has absolutely NEVER been better since my sweet Lisbeth came into my life...thanks to Match.com. We have shared our lives together for about 3 and 1/2 years and we were never more "in-love" than we are today, and will be even more tomorrow! So I will whisk Lisbeth, and her 17 year old daughter off to Florida where they deserve all the best the US has to offer, and the warm sunny weather instead of this Socialist, over-taxing, ice-cold, everybody-has-an-opinion-but-nobody-can-agree-on-anything country. Not that I have an opinion about Denmark...but believe me...it might be a nice place to visit...but YOU DON'T wanna live here! Till next time... Update July 2010 - Well, we made it to Lake Mary, Florida...and after a long hard year, have managed to get back on our feet. Liz is working and going to school...and her daughter Camilla graduated and just started college...we live in a beautiful house...just under 3000 sq feet, an awesome pool, a more awesome lake view, and in a security controlled neighborhood...you can see pictures on my MySpace page at my which is vanslette1. Stop by there and take a look...
