James's Story
Life
* Graduated from Baylor University in 1965, major in physics
* Married Linda Morgan (1964 Tech graduate) in 1965.
* Entered graduate school in 1965 at the University of Illinois, majoring in physics
* Daughter, Laura, born in 1971
* Earned Ph.D. in Physics from University of Illinois in 1973 (almost 30 and I'm finally out of school!!)
* Worked at Texas Instruments in Dallas Texas from 1973 through 1984; initially working on digital cameras (too early for the market)and a variety of integrated circuits (computer chips)...Lots of interesting, fast-changing technologies.
* After spending summer and winter vacations in Colorado, got the opportunity to work for Honeywell in Colorado Springs, moving there in 1984. That facility was sold to Atmel in 1989. I managed production engineering initially, then moved to directing the quality department.
* Laura graduated from high school and then went ot Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster Pa, graduating with a BA. She now is doing what she loves to do, working with animals as a dog trainer and running her own cat rescue, finding homes for over a 100 cats each year.
* After 28 years of marriage, Linda and I divorced in 1993.
* Left Atmel in 1997 to join a small company working on development of a new battery technology.

t technology turned out to be flawed with no real market; the company folded in 2001.
* Joined Agilent Technologies in Fort Collins, again working on digital cameras, but this time the market was ready, with cell phones just starting to add cameras.
* As the computer chip manufacturing turned into a global interprise, I had the opportunity for a lot of travel, visiting facilities and customers in the south of France, in Singpore, Malaysia, Holland and England. I have vacationed in Germany and Mexico.
* By chance, I ran into an former co-worker from Honeywell during a business lunch. We arranged to get together to discuss old times and in 2002, Harryette and I were married in the court house in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
* I am currently working as Chief Operations Officer of the Colorado state quality award program, which is an affiliate of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Program, estabished by congress in 1988. I develop and deliver training on performance improvement methods to organizations and also train the examiners that evaluate award applications.
* Outside of work and family, I play tennis year round, downhill ski, play tournament bridge (bronze life master), do some yard work, and enjoy maintaining and driving my 1973 MGBGT sports car, which I bought in 1975.
