James's Story

oh so long ago I had long hair, patched jeans, a sport jacket and one pair of shoes. I had an Oldsmobile Dynamic 88. After a late night of driving around and listening to Bleaker Street on the AM radio I would head to school. Bleaker Street was no longer on in the morning but it shared a frequency with a classical music station. I can't remember the call letters. I just remember driving over to a friends listening to Handel or Dvorshak and making a decision not to change the station. It was fine where it was. There was no need to interupt what was already happening. The morning was fresh. The spring air clean. ly don't know how I am remembered and in some ways don't know if I care. I can't change the impression I gave any of you 35 years ago. Like the radio it is the song that is playing. You will listen to the song that is your memory of me, of Park Hill, of your friends from long ago and either regret or rejoice in the melodies, harmonies, and rythyms of those songs. Or you will tune your mind to your days in the Navy, College, Graduate school, your first job, all the moves you have made since you graduated from Park Hill or to your family, new friends, or to a silly rambling post on the interent. That one is now. For those of you who do remember me and have managed to read this far know that I am well, married, working for the US Forest Service and living in Nevada. I know longer wear patched jeans. I still have a sports coat and I have several pairs of shoes. The radio is tuned to National Public Radio or a progressive acoustic radio station and I typically just let the radio play.
