CLASS OF 1964
Mountain view, CA

James's Story

Like many of us, I went on to college in the Fall of 1964, St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Seminary for thr SF Archdiocese. I attended in ther Poet class for 1-year (Freshman). In the Fall of 1965, I attended San Jose City College. Before that I spent the summer of 1965 in Mexico on the Amigos Anonymous Volunteer Work project in the state of Michoacan. I learned from more than I could have shared with the gracious people of Mexico...such a diverse and rich histroical culture. My Fall studies at City College, included the arts, fine arts, photography, drama, genetics, business, hsitory and the electives to eventually transfer to SJSU. I would marry for my first time in 1968 and we had a boy, Paul Joseph. My wife was the former Dorene Cooper of San Jose. I proceeded to work full-time and take full-time classes in college and eventually SJSU. Vietnam came along and I was not sent to there but inwas high up on the draft numbers. I taught elementary and secondary school for 4 years as a provisional substitute teacher. In 1971-2, I worked for First National Bank of San jose, and then later on, Community Bank of San Jose, CA. I graduated from SJCC and transferred to SJSU. Since we had a family, I had to concentrate totally on my working career and income for our growing family. My wife worked part-time and was a homemaker. In 1980, we separated and we were divorced in the Fall of 1981. From 1981 until recently, I have had numerous high tech jobs in both sales and marketing with many Silcon Valley players. In the early 80s, I went into radio & TV broadcasting as both talent and a crew person and I also became a newspaper columnist. I traveled all over the world from the 1980s until 1994, reporting in on all manner of stories. For Awhile, I lived in Venice Beach, CA and used ...Expand for more
this venue as my HQ, even though my broadcast entitiies were in the NO. CA area. In 1989, I married a Russian woman, from my time spent in the old USSR, Svetlana Chaikiina...she and my step-daughter eventually became citizens of the USA and they live in the East at present. We separated and divorced on 2004-5; I remarried for my 3rd time in 2007 to my present wifer, Marge Waite Throndson., who is a Stanford Univ grad and a court reporting professor at West Valley College, in Saratoga, CA, not far from our home. We have 3 grandchildren between us and and 3 children. We have a summer and beach cottage and enjoy the Central Coast area, Traveling & Sightseeing, Opera, Symphony, Jazz, hiking and reading, movies, golfing (my scores are a joke!), sailing, boating, scuba-diving (Jim is a licensed diver), general aviation (Jim is unlicensed as of yet?). broadcast enginnering (FCC licensed). amateur radio (FCC, KF6SUD), former real estate transactions (Jim was both a licensed salesperson and broker and notary public while in real estate for about 12-3 years), and far more endeavors that we all find fascinating as we age and grow up! Jim is semi-retired; he divides his time between a small, home-based distribution business and his other interests and that of his wife's passions and our kids lives and their children...our grandkids. Jim & Marge hope to live to ripe old ages and continue to be forces for goos in their communities for quite a long while. They both have contributed thousands of hours apiece to numerous charities and other organizations and understand that giving is far better than receiving. Best to all, fellow grads of SFHS...we hope to meet you dowen life's road and perform meaningful effots together. Jim & Marge...the Bottini clan and the kids and grandkids.
