James's Story

My dear wife, Ruth, passed away in February, 2019 after 59 wonderful years of marriage. Three daughters. One son (deceased). Fifteen grandchildren and seven great-granddaughters. All fun vibrant and handsome like their grandmother. After High School enlisted in the USMC and was selected for flight navigation school. During flying career at Cherry Point MCAS was assigned to VMR 252 then VMGR 252 (inflight refueling) as a flight navigator. Navigated R4Q-2 and then GV-1 (Hercules) transports. Qualified as a polar navigator and participated in the Bay of Pigs airlift out of Gitmo to Vieques P.R.. Deployed to Caribbean and South America and had assignments as a ferry navigator to Port Layuety Morocco delivering R4Q-2 aircraft to Navy. Youngest person to obtain an FAA navigator license and was recruited out of USMC to work for a government related agency delivering munitions, personnel and supplies to South Vietnam, Siam, Laos and Cambodia. Attended five universities over seventeen years. Last was Rollins College where I completed degree requirements for BS and BA in accounting and economics. Obtained certification as an Architect and worked as an Architect until I entered the construction and development industry in Florida. Developed residential and golf course communities until 1983 then established a real estate and consulting firm that developed, managed and marketed projects in Florida and the Caribbean. Highlights: # Designed and constructed test apparatus for NASA's crawler transport for moving Space Shuttle to launch pad. # Managed $36 million restoration of a major Puerto Rico resort community for Windham Hotels (El Conquistador) following the destruction of the island by Hurricane Georges. #Constructed 3,400 condominium units. #Designed and constructed over 11 Million square feet of Industrial facilities. #Constructed 700+ service stations in the South East US.. #Developed over 41,000 acres of residential, industrial and 5 golf course communities. #Permitted and now manage and market a 5,200 acre wetland mitigation bank (tmeconmitigationbank.com). #Aircraft pilot and flight navigator for 50+ years with over 8,000 hours over worldwide routes including three polar trips. Hobbies include car restoration and collection and my 1949 Mercury After refurbishing we now call her "Little Darlin' ".(see photos) She has won four awards in shows and parades.
