James F. Jim's Story

While completing his Insurance degree requirements at the University of Arizona, Jim Eager Jr. became the then youngest agent for Farmers Insurance Group. During Farmers’ pilot program of local Agents having company computer systems, he was selected as the only Arizona agent to participate. He was authorized for local claims settlement and check writing authority, and was nominated for, and graduated from, the Farmers’ District Managers training program. Shortly after obtaining his Insurance Broker’s license, Jim was asked to serve for several years as a Risk Manager for a nationwide car rental company. From his insurance experiences, he realized that computers could solve many 501C3 (not for profit) organization‘s bookkeeping, and billing problems. Jim started the first all computerized Management and Billing Services for 501C3 (not for profit) Fraternities, including payroll and fund raising services. Jim developed and designed year around member’s monthly billings as well as set up easy to understand books and software for paying Client Fraternity‘ s bills. One semester, Jim ‘ s computer/check printer, printed over a million dollars in client’s payments. He also provided facility management for his client Fraternity’s facilities (buildings and kitchens), including major kitchen building code upgrades and other remodels. While never a Boy Scout, Jim became active in scouting when his sons and daughter joined. He attended many a camping event and Camporees, served in Boy Scouting for many years resulting in service from the Troop level to Advisor for a Sound Exploring Post to District and Round Table commissioners to the Order of the Arrow where he became Lodge Advisor and achieved Vigil. He was awarded District honors, attended Philmont and graduated Woodbadge and received the Silver Beaver at the Council level. He gained political expertise, when he was elected as a precinct committeeman. He worked his way up through the political ranks, to finally being elected his political Party’s City Chairman. All during this time, he was coached and trained in how politics really work, by a most astute and knowledgeable political secretary, from Chicago. Jim’s volunteer and community service expertise started with Civitan International, where he worked with Youth and the mentally and Physically Challenged. He ran for and served in every major club and district office, up to being elected a multi-state Governor, started adult and collegiate clubs and was named a Civitan Internat...Expand for more
ional Leadership Training Academy Instructor. He supervised several district conventions and a major District and International reorganization program. He has been a very successful trainer/coach for dozens of pageant contestants as well as many young business professionals, in such areas as leadership skills, assertiveness training, press and job interviews, as well as a confidential coach for civic and charity groups, in operations and management, mission statements, common sense solutions to problems, publicity, ‘spin doctoring’ and newsletters. Jim’s local and state Miss America Pageant activities, and his negotiating, interviewing, people and technical skills, have led to his being asked to direct a TV vegetarian cooking show pilot and later to guest hosting several cable movie and television talk shows. Due to many requests from various charities for event planning and production assistance, Jim started an event sound consulting and production service. He has provided ideas, solutions and equipment for many civic and community events as well as designed sound systems, for theaters, plays, lectures (including for one of the Astronauts), USO type of touring troupes, musicals, local and state pageants, fashion shows and sporting events, with audiences ranging from a couple hundred, to one with over 20,000. He also was the adviser/trainer for an Exploring (Job Skills Training) Sound, Video and Lighting Crew Post, who assisted him with many community, civic and charity events. He has 3 grown children and two granddaughters. Sadly his wife of 47 years died October 19 2007 after a 12 year fight with a rare disease called TTP. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have moved to Sierra Vista, Arizona and have started a new life chapter. I remodeled my older son’s house there and I am still trying to fit stuff from a large house and 2 public storage sheds in Tucson, into a smaller home here. Now going through 100 + years of family photos and many revisions of a manuscript my Mother wrote about her life with my Dad from early days in Tucson, through WWII and their ranching days in Southern Arizona. I am always interested in meeting new people and I really enjoyed our Amphi 55th reunion in November, 2010 and the potlucks that have followed. I never did grow up and am having a great time laughing and living.
