James's Story

Life It's been a small while since I've even caught up with ANYONE from Trojan-land for long, long while. Let me put you up to date. After getting my Atmospheric Science degree from OSU, I decided to get a "real" job with Carnival Cruise line as a piano bar entertainer. After having a little too much "fun" with some of the various passengers, I was surreptitiously dropped off in San Juan, Puerto Rico to get my own way back to the mainland. It was shocking, but I wrote a great song about it. After that, I moved back home for a couple of months, saved money (happens to all of us, right), and got my Dispatcher license to work as a Forecaster/Air Traffic Controller for the airline industry. Great job, but bad timing as 9/11 occured 8 months later. After losing that job, I relocated to Denver for a couple of years. While occupying my time as a ski bum and a keyboardist in a few bands, I had a chance to perform as a musician on a private resort in southern Florida. After performing there for a few months, I had a chance to perform as a musician on The World. It is a cruise line in which the 'Residents' own their own apartments on the ship (you guessed it) as it travels around the world. I had to chance to travel to 4 different continents and approximately 35 countries, including most of South America, Latin American, Antarctica, and parts of Europe. It was quite a ride, but I finally had my share of the ocean and old, rich people...finally moving to Los Angel...Expand for more
es after vacating the ship. I have been living out here as a working musician, music piano teacher, and a Physical Science (of course, Physics, baby!!) teacher in Hollywood, CA. I have been working in three different musical projects including a funk/alternative band, an acoustic rock band, and an electronica/house project. I'm ALWAYS busy in this city of Broken Dreams. Also, I'll do some random acting on TV and have been teaching myself how to surf like Kelly Slater (far, far away from his level). In addition, I'm in the process of creating a scientific/futuristic/techno performance program in which I will be performing science experiments and producing a very inspiring, exciting, and very entertaining show. Within the next few years I hope to be touring throughout Los Angeles and incorporating this show within various schools districts around California. In addition, I hope to sell this idea to Disney at one point as an educational and entertaining television show (we can all dream, can't we?!). All I have to say is that I profoundly thank good ole' Doc Schwenk for all of his disciplined teachings, his fantastic rhetoric, and his constant inspiration that has always kept me looking towards the stars. That is all I have to say about myself at this juncture. Thank you for taking an interest in my meandering and vagabond life so far. I hope everyone else from Trojan-land is experiencing everything that life has to offer as well. Ciao for now!!
