James's Story
Soon after we were married in Southern California, we moved to London, England, where I served as the CEO of Global International. Living in London in the 70Âs and 80Âs, and raising our two daughters who were born there, was a magical time for us. After 16 years there, I decided to move the family to Bend, Oregon in 1989. While we got an ÃÂAmerican big-outdoors experience, it was short lived  both too cold and too isolated for us to want to stay. In search of the warmth and more business opportunities, we soon moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where we lived for 13 years and I invested in real estate. Scottsdale changed drastically during our time there and, just before the bubble burst, Diana and I decided to move to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
We are very happy and, yes, very safe here in Mexico. San Miguel is a beautiful, historic colonial town that is 350 years old and in the heart of where the Mexican Revolution began. It has had a restoration ordinance since 1920, so it has been preserved and is a historical gem. Roughly 8,000 expats live here, mainly from the USA. erful and welcoming. The elevation is 6,000 feet, which provides Âeternal Spring weather with no need for heat or air conditioning. Diana and I live in a colonial home we built together.
We have two beautiful daughters of whom we are so proud. Our oldest, Lisa, has been living in New Delhi, India, for 16 years. She is the Founder of her own organization, Going to School, which creates stories to teach entrepreneurial skills to India's poorest children - helping them to help themselves and their country. Our youngest daughter, Andrea, is a Wildlife Biologist, one of the few women in this field. She is the Vice President of a group called Panthera that is based in New York City. This global organization works to save big cats (tigers, lions, jaguars) living in the wild. While one works to help children and the other to help wildlife, both girls are creative storytellers and have produced and directed award-winning films.
Diana and I have been married now for 45 years. We look forward to living out this wonderful chapter of our lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, which is for us the foreseeable future.
