James's Story
I went to Pitt for a couple of years but didn't have the drive to finish at that time.
In the early seventies there was a great need for drafters (e.g. the latest gender sensitive name for draftsmen). I got lucky and with just the education I had from High School was able to get my foot in the door.
By the end of the seventies I developed two main interest groups outside of work.
One was joining in outdoor activities through the very active Pittsburgh branch of the American Youth Hostels. We went white water rafting, cross country skiing, backpacking, rock climbing, caving and sailing just to name a few of the activities.
The other was Old Time Music and Dance. I started learning to play the fiddle and got interested in old style dancing (barn dances and such).
Needless to say, I am not as much of a loner as I was in High School.

cided I needed to get my engineering degree.
Between raising a family (5 kids) and taking classes for my degree, I had to give up on my fiddle and outdoor activities.
After a struggle of about 12 years, I finally got my civil engineering degree with a structural emphasis.
Also due to the downturn in the Pittsburgh economy in 1986, I ended up moving to the Dayton Ohio area with my family.
The kids now are older and have mostly moved out of the house.
I found I had more time and one day suddenly remembered my fiddle.
I've been working at the fiddle for a few years now, but I regret that I didn't get back to it sooner.
I suspect that learning to play up to my expectations will take another 20 years.
Hope you all are well, and hope to see you at the reunion next year.
PS
I don't have any old pictures of me dating back to the seventies so I posted one of my wife and I that was taken a few years ago.
