James's Story
Life
For a more detailed bio, visit my website at the link on the left. I'm currently an advocate for mixed-race individuals, interracial couples/families and transracial adoptees through my websites, The Multiracial Activist and The Abolitionist Examiner.
Plans for the future include continuing my work with Ward Connerly and others on abolition of all government imposed racial classifications. No one should be forced to disclose such information on any government form.
I currently participate in several national and international civil liberties coalitions focusing on opposition to national ID cards, rollbacks of the 4th and 5th Amendments, and mandatory data retention for European ISPs. I also serve as a media contact for Veterans for Common Sense (veteransforcommonsense DOT org) in addition to serving on the steering committee of the Racial Privacy Initiative (racialprivacy DOT org).
Through my website, I am also a plaintiff in a major Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Justice Department regarding illegal secret detentions since September 11 (jameslandrith DOT com /cnssvdoj.html). I am also planning a book regarding the multiracial movement of the late 90's. Politically, I identify as a libertarian. I've been asked to run for office several times in the past. Perhaps that's in the cards in the near future...

School
I attended grade school in Deer Creek (K-8) from 1976 - 1984 and high school in Mackinaw from 1984 - 1988.
College
I took some courses at Illinois Central College before leaving for the USMC in January 1989 and also earned dozens of credit hours through the Marine Corps Institute. I currently hold an A.A....Expand for more
from American Military University and am working towards a B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies to be completed by November 2005. Then, I'll be pursuing employment with one of the dozens of think tanks here in D.C.
Workplace
I've worked in a variety of national trade organizations in government relations, a Presidential commission (on base closures), and previously in the United States Marine Corps. I've been able to meet some interesting people, many of whom have served as Presidential appointees, like my former boss. Working in the DC area gives you access to these folks since they are in every organization in the city. After 11 years here, I can't picture living anywhere else. I'd feel politically out of touch.
UPDATE: As of February 2005, I've returned to the health care industry working for BestPractices, Inc., a hospital emergency room management corporation with offices in Illinois, West Virginia, Virginia (where I am) and North Carolina.
Military
I spent six years on active duty in the USMC from 1989-1995. I enjoyed my time and got out of Central Illinois as an added bonus. After my honorable discharge in January 1995, I went on to serve on the Navy Team of the 1995 Presidential Commission on Defense Base Closure and Realignment. After that I spent another enlistment, this time in the reserves, most of it inactive, but at least 1 year of active drilling. I received my second and final honorable discharge in February 2001. I currently serve as a media contact for Veterans for Common Sense.
