James's Story
Life
Immediately after graduation from Portage, I joined the US Army, and served for 20 yrs, mostly in the Band field, retiring in 1985 from staff & faculty and the US Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, VA., where I currently reside. During my Army career, I was stationed in Norfolk, VA, Petersburg, VA, Bad Kreuznach, Germany, Norfolk, VA, Newport News, VA, Aberdeen, MD, and Norfolk VA.
Prior to an assignment to Germany in 1966, I married the former Carol Wagner (Kalamazoo Central, '65). We had 4 sons; Jim Jr. in '68, Kevin in '70, and Matthew and Mark in '73. Carol & I divorced in '83, and we have each remarried twice since. "The third time seems to be the charm" for both of us, I know is has been for me. Nelma and I just had our 13th anniversary, and we haven't had our first fight yet!
I graduated from St. Leo University in '83 with an Associate of Arts degree, and in '91 with a BA in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting and Computer Information Systems. r with the Naval Audit Service, trying to find out where the Navy is spending all those tax dollars and telling them how to do it better. Yes, after twenty years in the Army, I'm making pretty good money finding fault with the Navy!!! It's a dream job!
I look forward to retiring in seven more years and doing some traveling, visiting my three surviving sons and my grandchildren (I have 2 granddaughters in Kalamazoo and 2 grandsons in Columbus, GA). In retirement, I may find a way to watch even more sports on TV! (hey, you gotta have goals!)
College
I graduated from St. Leo University in '83 with an Associate of Arts degree, and in '91 with a BA in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting and Computer Information Systems. School work seems a lot more important when you're 44 years old!
