James Maurer:

CLASS OF 1983

James's Story

Since graduation I served 8 years in the US Army then joined the Honolulu Police Departed where I'm currently working as a detective. I graduated from Chaminade University with a B.S in Criminal Justice and a Minor in Religious Studies - if the police thing didn't work out I was gonna be a monk! I'm looking forward to retiring in fall of 2017 and plan to move back to the area sometime after that to help take care of my family. I've been married for 26 years to a wonderful woman who was born and raised in Honolulu and who is a Nurse Practitioner in OB/GYN. We have 2 sons, Nicolas (Yuji) and Nathaniel (Kenji). Yuji is 15 years old, in the 10th grade and working towards being an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts (never thought I'd raise an Eagle S...Expand for more
cout - but he's great!) Kenji just turn 13 and is in the 7th grade and on the autism spectrum - he is high functioning and very social (never thought I'd have an autistic child but Kenji is the greatest!) I normally make it back to the area twice a year, once for a family visit and once to go hunting with my dad in the fall. This year Yuji and I were there most of June and spent a week at Hawk Mountain Scout Reserve in the Boots and Paddles program - 64 miles in 5 days was the hardest thing I've done since basic training! Of course it didn't help that I'm nearly 50 years old, nearly 50 lbs over weight, and use to living at sea level. Spare time is spent with family, hiking, scouting functions, and brewing beer - yep - that's a great hobby!
