James's Story

It's difficult sum up almost thirty years of your life in one column, but its been a pretty good ride so far. God has blessed me with good family and friends, though I wish I were better about keeping in touch. I have never married or had children, but I still hope to do so. It's been sometimes sad, sometimes boring and sometimes exciting, but mostly happy. I hope to see most of my old friends and aquaintances again sometime. If you would like to know more of what I've been doing since 1980, you can see a summary below: After High School, I attended San Jacinto College South for a few years and got an Associates Degree. It was nice because I was able to continue to my friendships with many of the people I knew at Dobie and make new friends with many who had graduated from nearby high schools such as Clear Creek, Clear Lake, Pearland, and Friendswood. Upon graduation from San Jacinto. I continued my education at UH Clear Lake, but suffered from a severe eye infection and dropped out for a semester. Although legally blind in one eye, I still wanted to complete my Bachelor's degree, so I transferred to Dallas Baptist University where my younger brother was going on scholarship. I graduated from DBU with a BS in Computer Science in the spring of 1986. After getting my Bachelors, I continued for a semester towards my MBA, but did not finish. I took a job with Computer Sciences Corp at NASA as a co...Expand for more
mputer systems analyst and programmer in 1987 and worked there for almost six years. I had corneal transplant surgery in 1988 and was able to fully regain my sight. In 1993 I relocated to Austin to work for Andersen Consulting. During my time with Andersen, I started working with child support enforcement systems and traveled to Nashville, TN in 1995 lived there for a year. In 1999 I left Andersen and moved to the U.S. territory of Guam on a contract to work with the Office of the Attorney General in implementing and maintaining their child support computer system. I lived in Guam for almost six years during which time I traveled to many destinations in Asia and Australia, as well as Hawaii and the Pacific Islands. I became an avid scuba diver and was lucky enough to wreck dive on the islands of Truk and the great barrier reef in Cairns Australia. Living in Guam was an adventure, but when my contract ended, I moved back to the mainland in 2005. I went back to Austin at the beginning of 2007 and was lucky enough to go back to work for the Office of the Attorney General of Texas with the Child Support Enforcement Division. Though I never intended to do this type of work, It seems to be where the good Lord has steered me. I hope God blesses each and every one of you who actually made it to the last sentence of all of this. You must be truly bored right now!!! Maybe I will add more details later.
