James's Story

Life A friend of mine put me on classmates and it has been interesting checking out some of my old hs buds. I was sort of a nerd but did get car of the month and boy of the month in my senior year 1970. Car-souped up 1969 Chevy Panel Van with lightbar, stereo, etc. First in a long series of SUVs and 4-wheelers. Got boy of the month because I got good grades without studying too much and I was also the first 4 year Varsity letterman in FV history. Sport-Golf-Everybody laughed and picked on me for the nerd sport, but guess who's laughing now. Had dreams of being on the tour but I never made the next level upper-crust(college). There are several levels each one that much harder. The guys on the tour are incredible athletes. I met Tiger when he was 10. I shot 76 and he beat me! His Dad was very mean to him but I guess it worked. After High School I got accepted by UCLA but didn't go because I was caught up in the flower child, free love generation. I didn't even go to college the first semester after graduating. What a waste! I got drafted in the first lottery in Jan. of 1971, but I got a lawyer and got out and started college at Golden West. Since the War was going on I stayed in school, worked at Golden West College Bookstore, graduated AA in 1973, Long Beach St. BS in Accounting in 1975, and finally a JD from Western State University in Dec.1978. I took the Bar exam and passed it in February of 1979. It was really hard but for the first time in my life I put out a decent effort and I succeeded. That was pretty much the end of my lawyer career although I still have a license to practice law, never had, never will, I don't really like lawyers. My career-I went to work as an auditor in Las Vegas for a small realestate company and ended up catching the field superintendent embezzling money(las Vegas-go figure). They had no one to take his place so I got the opportunity to learn how to sell and build houses from the ground up. I worked for that company(Forecast Corporatio...Expand for more
n) for 15 years as Sr. VP with a meddling, stressed-out owner,developed/built over 15,000 single family houses in Cal., Az. and Nevada. I finally had enough and quit in 1997 and sold my 10% stock share for $100,000. The company was bought out by K. Hovanian(#1 national builder-$320 the next year and there went my 32 million clams. Wandered aimlessly for the next few years as a mobilehome dealer, had some health problems-2 hip replacements(too much golf!), hepatitus B(bad Chinese food, really), and finally had to get a pacemaker/defibulator last year because of low blood pressure-never has made sense to me, it's just in there but as long as you're ok, it's ok. Get out of line-ZAAPPPP!!!! I only had a little zipy so far so it keeps me in line. Started my own RE Development Co. in 1999 and the timing couldn't have been better. All my old friends and former employees helped me out and with a little luck we have done very well and it is still going on. I'm not complaining, I want to retire and travel while I am still young and healthy. Personal-I just turned 53, have all my hair and it looks the same color as it always was. I married the former Darci Lewis(class of 1978) in 1979 and after 3 children, Kendra 20(CSUF), Jimmy JR, 18 class of 2005 at our rival El Dorado HS, and our baby Jared-age 10, gets straight A's and has announced he wants to attend Harvard University and be a ?herpetologist?hint-studies reptiles and amphibians, run on sentence, she has decided to keep me around even though I am a handful. Really I just wanted to say Hi to all my old friends and to remind all of you to keep in touch with your friends and family. I lost my younger brother, John, to a hang-gliding accident in 1997 and my high school buddy, Greg Schott(took GED) last year to a motorcycle wreck. I've had several"near-death" illnesses, accidents, etc. but am still kicking hard. I want to leave with something for all to rememberYou can achieve anything if you put your heart and soul init
