James's Story
Family:
In the summer of 1983 I met my future wife at a party in Downey. She had just graduated from Warren High School, AKA "The Enemy." We became good friends for a few months before dating. 3 years later, we married, and have been married for 21 years. We have 2 children, one girl and one boy.
Work/Education:
From 1981 to 1983 I attended Cerritos College, and worked part time at a liquor store in Downey. In 1985 I heard some inspiring words coming from a commercial in between a Twilight Zone episode that would change my life . . . "Your future could be just a phone call away." Turns out, they were right! I signed up at Control Data Institute, dropped down $2,500 that I had saved, and took out a loan for another $2,500. In November of 1985 I graduated from CDI's 9 month program and entered the corporate world as a compute...Expand for more
r technician, building some of the very first IBM PC's to hit the market.
After only 18 months at my first gig, I got a job at Ford Aerospace in Newport Beach. I would stay at this job for 9 years while also attending OCC, eventually graduating with a B.S. from Chapman University in 1995. What most people call a 4 year degree, I call a 4 "teen" year degree.
In 1996 I ventured back into the public tech space for a networking company which would be bought by another company and broken up within 1 year. In 1997 I joined a startup networking company which went on for almost a year until they ran out of money. I then found a job at a disk/tape drive company (1998 - 2000) which would set me up for my next/current position as a software engineer with one of the global leaders in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications.
