Both grandfathers extremely susscessful - Dr. James E West founded Boy Scouts in 1911. Elwyn Seelye founded Seelye founded Seelye, Stevenson. Value and Kenect and built the SAC Bases in Plattsburg and Rome in the early 1950's. Also built the mysterous missle silo's in the solid Adirondack 3 billion year old exposed Canadian Sheild. These silo's housed ICBM's could reach Russia. To detect in comming missles he built DEW Line above the Artic circle. He was a cold war warrior and had the full support of Allen and Foster Dulles who would visit him at the family summer place on Lake George where they planned the SAC system to deter an attack by Russia until Warner Vob Braun could fix our then inoperatable rock...Expand for more
ets. He shared his projects with me. When I was about 12 he took me to Plattsburg Airforce Base. We were treated like VIPS and everyone saluted us. I returned the salutes with the three finger Boy Scout Salute. On the way home he asked me where I had learned the strange salute and I told him "Boy Scouts". To this day I blush with embarassment when he explained the difference and I realized my mistake. Up until the Cuban Missle Crisis we were in real danger of a first strike nuclear attack from Russia. He believed these stop gap measures were the deterent that saved our country frpm total destruction. I made my first million at 38 years old by founding and growing TV Data - now Tribune Media Services. This made me an expert in data base management and Satellite communications for a few years. I had 5 other start ups since and have been coasting a bit now. Married 1962 with 2 great boys - both equally or more successful than me. Divorced 1980. Remarried 1983 to Greta Gibson (teacher - Little House on the Parrie type). Looking back, Although too clickish for some Scarsdale was a great place to formulate ones ideas with a petrie dish of opportunity.".
