"You must be the change, you seek in the world" ~Gandhi~ I have had some major medical things in my life of late. But with the support of my wonderful family and God, I have sailed through things like a champ. Even though most of it is on going, meaning these are things that you just don't get over, these things will be with me the rest of my life. Along with lots of med's, but you have to make the best of what you have. So I just keep going and smiling, that's all that God requires of us. My husband Tony has also had some major medical things, also. In 2005 he contracted a very rare lung disease and just about died. He was in ICU at St. John's, Tulsa in a co...Expand for more
ma for about 5 weeks. When he did come around we weren't sure if he was going to have some kind of brain damage from the lack of oxygen that he went through. Thank God there was no brain damage but, at St. John's they were concerned that they couldn't get him off the vent. So I had to take him to Mayo, in Rochester, Minn. to get the help he needed. Thank God for great friends that helped us out with that. Since the hospital bills were starting to pour in and the insurance wouldn't cover Mayo, our friends helped to pay for the trip and hotel for me and my mom. We were up there for a little over 3 weeks. But, in the first 48 hours the Dr's already had him off the vent! We came home to finish his physical therapy here, like learning to walk and feed himself... stuff like that. In Oct. of 2009, Tony went in to the doctor in Lawrence KS and he removed the trach tube completely. We went home with the hole in his neck to wait to see if it would heal on it's own. In Feb of 2010 we went back to Lawrence KS and the doctor had to do surgery to close the hole from the trach tube. This was great! Now he can breath better and no more leaking all kinds of stuff. UGH! In March 2010, Tony went in to Dr. Myers here in Bartlesville and had all of his tests done. We have to do this every six months. Tony's test results were that he has not had anymore damage so far from the lung disease . He is still at 66% capacity for his lungs. Tony has just finished Pulmonary Rehab which helped a lot. So Onward... We just take each day as it comes and thank God for all that we have. He is truely great and merciful. Thanks Be To God!!".
