Jamie's Story

To all my friends and family, I would like to share an amaaazing journey we went on last month with all of you. As you all know we Rhonda Hughes, Tina Gregory, Donna Munday and Myself had obligated ourselves to raise $2200.00 each and walk 60 miles for Breast Cancer research in hopes of finding a cure to this horrible disease that has ravaged family¿s, friends, coworkers and strangers let me tell you, it was a breath taking event. It started out on a cold morning at a park some ware in Plano Texas where we all gathered to listen and watch survivors and the survivors of loved ones who relived some of there experiences and banded together for a single cause, in a crowd of people that just seemed to get bigger and bigger by the second. We walked approximately 18 to 22 miles a day all 3800 of us you would have gasped at the site of the line of people that just kept going on and on and on. Only to end up back at Tent City a park filled 1900 pink pup tents if you climbed up on the bleachers and just looked around it was an amazing site. We spent our evenings laughing and dancing with our new friends on our sore and blistered feet. The whole event was quite a challenge for all of us but the real challenge for me came on the final day of walking. I saw people walking with bad knees and hips, broken feet, exhaustion and as for myself and many others blisters that covered every inch of our feet. It was painful and exhausting and just about the time you wanted to give up you would see some one walking in front of you with a picture on there back of someone who either lost or was still fighting the battle with Cancer. That would always inspire me to dig a little deeper and push myself past my comfort zone. Then there were the cheering stations, oh my goodness the cheering stations were something to behold two for everyday you walked. Let me tell you, there are no words in the English language that I know to tell you how it feels to walk by a little girl who is holding a sig...Expand for more
n that says thank you for saving my mommy, or my wife is my hero. There were at least a hundred or so people at the cheering stations sometimes you would see the same people at each station they would travel from station to station to cheer you on. some with due rags covering there bald heads others thanking us for there loved ones lives and then those honoring the loved ones who just did not make it. I get goose bumps still just thinking about there faces it was amazing. As with all good things in life they must come to an end, as did our walk. We walked into our closing ceremonies at SMU in Dallas Texas arm in arm 10 strong and listened to the amazing people talk about the difference we made we as a group, raised seven million dollars in three days I couldn¿t believe it what a feat. So here it is Monday after the walk and I am sitting in flip flops and socks on a 48 degree day because my swollen and blistered feet will not fit into a single pair of my shoes my neck is sore and I may need a cortazone shot in my left knee and all I can think about is how I am going to raise the money to make it back there next year. This experience has changed me for life and opened my eyes. I had no idea what changes you could make in the lives of others just one step at a time. So to all of our friends and family who supported all of us by walking beside us, digging into you wallets or keeping us in your prayers we give our heart filled thanks to all of you. You¿ll never know how much we appreciated the opportunity to be a part of something so awesome something so big, something so powerful. Well I have taken enough of your time with my babble so I will leave you with a little affirmation I learned on my journey. There were signs all along the trail with positive affirmations pushing you on and reminding you why you were trying so hard here is my favorite one. ¿It¿s kinda fun doing the impossible¿ Thank you for your love and support Jamie Mikula Ladies of Ram Jack team of Hope
