Jan's Story

I've been married for a long, long time to my husband, Ed. We have two beautiful daughters-Carrie and Chrissy. As of right now, they are 25 and 23 years old-and we're very proud of both of them. Carrie's single and living with us and Chrissy lives wither boyfriend, Steve (they have been together for 7 1/2 years this month-Mau, 08). Chris and Steve live in Fremont, CA. After working for AT&T (SBC, Pac Bell & Pac Tel), I retired 2 years ago with 31 1/2 years of service (I, also, quit back in 1991 for 7 1/2 years to stay home with my girls). Once I retired (Ed retired because of medical problems in 9/94)-we moved to Sparks, NV (actually we live outside of Sparks in the county in a reall nice area called Spanish Springs). It's great here-still city-but on a much smaller scale-commute traffic is nothing like in the Bay Area. Besides my girls-I'm in the highlight of my life-I have my animals. I've always been into pets and now I'm in the best years of my life ever. I have 4 dogs- a 13 year old male mini doxie, a 5 1/2 yr old female Jack Russell Terrier, a 20 month old female mini doxie and a 10 month old female yellow lab. Then there are my kitties- a 7 yr old brown male tabby, a 2 1/2 year old black/white long hair female, a 20 month old brown male tabby, a 15 month old shorth hair gray and white male and our "baby"- an 8 month old calico female. I still want one more-a long hair orange and white female-a baby, of course. Ed teases me that we should live on a farm with a house with dirt floors since I have a "zoo" of animals. But he loves them all. Our life would be sooooo dull without all these babies. Do I miss working-believe it or not-I really do. I'm a people person and I really m...Expand for more
iss to contact. Someday soon-I may go back to work at least parttime. Just too hard right now with lots hapening (and too many animals-oh, as normal, I forgot-we have two parakeets, too. Poor birds, I forget to mention them all the time-but I do remember to feed them and give them water). In the meantime-we're just really enjoying Nevada. It has it's strange weather, possible showers-we'll get a few sprinkles, we can get snow wheneve-it just snowed at 5:30in the morning last Friday (May 2). Lots of lightning strikes during the summer months. AND-most recently-tons of earthquakes (like 5000 in the last 9 weeks)-but, I've only flet one-a 3.7 a couple of weeks ago-that's nothing-since I was in the Bay Area during the 10/89 Loma Prieta that was a 7.0. But one thing that we have here is Pyramid Lake-it's about a half hour drive from our house and I remember seeing it for the 1st time last August. It tok my breath away-the lake at about 1pm was the color of a sapphire - it was just beautiful - something that should be considered one of the "Wonders of the World". After living here-in such a kick back lifestyle-I could never move back to the Bay Area-way too congested with the roads and what shouldn't be there. I miss all my friends in CA-but am s happy here in NV (just got to make sure that I never turn into a "redneck" that there are many of here). But I doubt, knowing me, that would happen. I still have my big city CA views. I still hate guns and those that use them. But we do have coyotes up here and I'm all for buying mace to get them away if they try to attack. As opposed to guns as I am, I'm willing to gety a stun-gun-just to protect Ed and the animals. I just could not kill anything.
