Jan's Story
42 years ago, after a whirlwind three-month courtship, Cynthia and I eloped 2 days before Christmas (and a day before my birthday). She was a music therapist at Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital and I was a fledgling attorney. We held off starting a family while Cynthia got her first masters degree and I established my law practice. Finally, when the time was right, Cynthia quit her job to be stay-at-home mom and we raised 2 terrific kids. Our son (single) lives in Santa Monica Ca. and travels frequently for business to the Philippines and now also Central America. Our daughter settled in Washington DC after a stint as a White House Intern in the Office of the President for Political Affairs. She met her husband at a White House Christmas party. He is U-2 spy plane pilot who was on leave as a military social aide to the President. He is now a congressional liaison for the USAF. a new career as a music teacher for elementary and special education students. She retired last this past July after a very rewarding 15 years of teaching. With the exception of a short career detour as the president of a manufacturing company, I have been practicing law with a small firm and have no desire to retire, but I do take more time off to pursue our/my interests. Cynthia and I enjoy shooting sports and croquet tournaments. Iâm still very involved with the Boy Scouts. Iâm an avid outdoorsman and continue with my hunting/fishing/camping and hiking. However, time and age have taken their toll and I fear that my daughterâs wish for the 2 of us to thru-hike the AT is no longer realistic. Two years ago we downsized from the family home of 30 years to something more manageable with a small yard, but a great hot tub. We always traveled a lot as a family and we look forward to continuing. We love our family and friends, our clubs and our life in general. Long live the blues and rock & roll. You can always use more cowbell.
