Ronald's Story

School It's all kind of "fuzzy" trying to remember right now, but I can remember who some of my friends were. Quite a few, have unfortunately died since school; some of them tragically, and needlessly. In Jr.High, at Horace Mann, the football coach was the best; he was also the boy's advisor. The football coach at Mukwonago, was Mr. Enright, and he'd probably be shocked, but he influenced me more than he'll probably ever know; Mr. Danielson did, too - he at least believed in me, and was the only teacher who got me to enjoy school and homework - for a short while at least. After he left, the teacher's and I didn't see much eye-to-eye, because they looked down at me and expressed their feeling's pretty openly. The Driver's Ed teacher (Paul, with the mustang), the Ag and shop teacher, and the biology teacher (young lady) were also my favorites. I just didn't have much time for homework, and studyhall was usually not my favorite, either. Doug McAfree and his crew were always giving me a hard time, everywhere I went, including passing in the halls. We finally had a small fight out by the buses, that was broken up; we later went at it with the big gloves behind the field house - one punch to my nose and I had enough; I didn't care to fight anyway, my dad would kick my butt when he'd find out! My brother Ken and I wouldn't take any garbage off anyone, tho', and if someone that was our friend was being picked on by someone bigger than they were, we wouldn't hesitate to step in and settle it where the odd's were a little more even. I remember one fellow named "Green" was go...Expand for more
ing to take on both my brother and I, which was finally cancelled at the last minute. He even made an apology for trying to start it. I give him credit for that. Mike Peterson and his brother, the Fry brothers, Rosie Rico, Sharon Wernig, "Soapy", were also some of our friend's we hung out with in high school; Sid Hennekins, the Meddaugh's, the Gabor's, Milazzo's, Donnie Wolfram, Gene Gainer, the Wroblewski sister's (twin's and Cheryl), Webb's; all come to mind... our bus driver, Lee, was also the best I've known - always took good care of us, and didn't take any rough-housing from anyone. There were other's, but my memory fails me for right now. My "steady girl" was Mabel "Dee" Johns, in my senior year; we were married when we were 21, but divorced within 2yrs in California, where I was in the Marines. We were still too young, and should never have gotten married. The Rasmussen brother's worked out at the truck farm on the south end of Mukwonago, with my brother and I; we also worked with Jerry Nygren and Dana Ahrens at the Eagleville Golf Course for Mrs. Mary Touhey Ryan; washed dishes and worked maintenance at the big Supper Club at Elkhorn on Hwy 12, by the lake, with John Meddaugh and the McCoy sister's from Palmyra. If I could do it all over again, I would, but I'd sure change my attitude I had. I'd concentrate on school more, instead of girl's and money; and smoking would be out of the question, so I could run again! I really enjoyed football, and would have tried harder in school. Maybe later, I'll remember more, but for now, that's about it.
