Hi All,
We are now official Tennesseans!
That said, I am loving TN and especially Franklin. Two years here and we’ve gotten somewhat involved within our Westhaven community and Franklin. Being only 20 minutes of Nashville does have its' advantages. And Franklin sees a lot of the very famous people performing and living here. There is always music playing 'somewhere'. We love it!
We're still feeling the fun of being on an adventure, of exploring new places and finding finding unexpected treasures.
For example, if you’re a whiskey drinker as am I, you might enjoy learning that Jack Daniels was mentored by a black man, Nearest Green, who made moonshine for a man he worked for. ly they went their own ways (remaining friends). Fast forward to now: A woman, Fawn Weaver, herself a black woman saw a book/article? about Jack Daniels which mentioned Uncle Nearest as he was called. Fascinated, she looked into it, decided to honor him by opening a distillery. She purchased land, built the distillery in Shelbyville plus, get this…the longest whiskey bar in the world…holds 500 people. They have a stage for live concerts, picnic grounds, a BBQ restaurant, even cute geese families living there.
There’s much more to the story and it’s fascinating. I believe that Uncle Nearest’s great+granddaughter is head distiller. I’m sure she has a more elegant title. That’s all my old brain can remember without an internet search.
