Life
I'm now living in NYC, having been lured away from Boston/Cambridge by my new husband, Norm Pearlstine. There are no kids or pets in my life, but all the same, the past couple of years have been busy and extraordinary. I've had the opportunity to take part in events as diverse as the World Economic Forum in Davos, the couture shows in Paris, the Brainstorm Conference at the Aspen Institute, and the Oscars. In the past year or so, we've travelled to China three times, Berlin and St. Bart's twice, and once each to Australia, Thailand, Argentina and Japan. -- And those are just the highlights! hankfully, things are becoming less frenetic, and I am resuming my research on the personal implications of technology as I try my hand at writing.
In 2002, I completed my Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering. And until my move to NYC, I was working in the supply chain industry doing product and market strategy. It has been odd to transition to NYC, a place where the primary product is paper - whether it's media or money. It's also strange to be in an environment where technology is so peripheral to the business at hand. The absence of scientific and technological experience is glaring. As a consequence, I am often the lone engineer in the room. Though I enjoy being "exotic", it is unexpected.
