Jane's Story

Life I was discharged from the Navy with almost 2 yrs and a bad knee. I loved watching F14 Tomcats fly. I went to school on the GI Bill for a year. Then, my babysitter told me about a job for the State of California, Employment Development Dept. They were looking for Disabled Vietnam-Era Veterans to help veterans return to the work force. It was originally for 18 months, and I retired with another disability after 18 1/2 years. Currently reside in Tennessee. I was Chairwoman of the California State Commission on Women Veterans. We traveled the state and put on Public Heaarings regarding the benefits for women veterans and veterans in general. We assisted hundreds of women and men veterans to get the help they needed. Sometimes we were able to cut thru the red tape and get some things quicker. I learned about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and ended up lecturing laypersons on the problems associated with the disorder. As well as working for the State of California, I was a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for over 18 years. I worked all phases of law enforcement such as as working a patrol beat and worked last with missing persons and runaways. I am a charter member of Disabled A...Expand for more
merican Veterans and Vietnam Veterans of America; and a member of American Legion and several other veteran's organizations. My beautiful daughter, Jennifer Lynn, is 26 and lives in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I travel back and forth every year. I see such beautiful sights and visit as many family and friends as possible along the way. I loved my time in the Navy and I missed it terribly when I was discharged. However, I had a daughter to fill my time. My husband, Jim, and I divorced in July 1977 I hope to find some people that passed thru my life and get to know them again. There were alot worth remembering. Workplace I worked for the State of California, Employment Development Dept., from 4-77 thru 10-96. I worked as a Veteran's Employment Counselor, and all other phases of the job. I also loaned out to the State of California, State Assembly as the Chairwoman of Women's Veteran's Commission (5 yrs). During this time, I was also a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with Tuolumne County performing all duties particularly patrol from 3-80 to 2-2001. I also taught classes at the University of Colorado, Denver on benefits for veteran's and specializing in the problems of women veterans.
